Houseplants That Can Thrive in Your Kitchen

Greenery in your home is an easy way to add a pop of freshness and life to your room. Adding plants to your kitchen can not only help purify the air, but you can also grow your own produce to use. Not all plants will thrive in every single kitchen. The light source, humidity, and temperature are all key to successfully growing plants inside, but these are some great options to start with.

Pothos are great plants to start with, they can live in various light conditions and are considered to be fairly drought tolerant. They make excellent hanging plants as well, so you don’t have to take up valuable counter space.

Growing herbs in your kitchen year-round is a perfect way to add freshness to your dishes no matter what the weather outside is doing. Most herbs will grow well in bright, direct sunlight. Try chives, parsley, rosemary, basil, and oregano.

If you have a windowsill with bright sun, consider adding some succulents to your kitchen. The term “succulent” is used to describe a plant that stores water in their leaves and/or stems which makes them not only drought resistant, but usually also low maintenance.

With its glossy leaves and compact growth, a coffee plant makes a lovely addition to your kitchen. While you won’t likely actually harvest any coffee beans from this indoor plant, this is an attractive plant to add to your space.

If the idea of a winter without flowers makes you feel a bit blue, try an African violet. These plants can bloom almost year-round with proper care, they do well in bright, indirect light and frequent watering.
