Wonderful Winter Activities to Try

During the colder winter months, it may be tempting to hunker down under your favorite blanket and endlessly stream your favorite shows or movies but staying busy and active during the winter months can help stave off the blues that sometime come around during the darkest months of the year. Whether your favorite winter activities are outside or inside, here are some ideas to make the most of this time of the year.

Head to the kitchen to bake the day away. Fresh bread baking or cookies in the oven make your house smell divine and there’s something that makes fresh baked goods more delicious when it’s cold outside. Try a new recipe, or an old family favorite. While you’re baking bread, make a pot of soup, chili, or stew to go along with it and to warm up from the inside out.

If you love the snow and being outdoors, you’re sure to find many fun ways to spend a winter day. Invite the kids to build a snowman! Go sledding, ice skating, skiing, hiking, or snowshoeing, or just have a good old fashioned snowball fight.

Staying indoors and getting crafty can be a fun and creative way to spend a day. Learn to knit or crochet yourself or someone else a new hat or scarf, start a family photo album or scrapbook, try your hand at painting or sculpting with clay.

Cold weather, wind, and dry heat from furnaces can wreak havoc on your skin and hair. Set aside a day to pamper yourself with spa treatments you don’t have to leave the house for. Light a soothing candle, get a cup of tea, turn on some relaxing music and indulge in a bubble bath. Treat yourself to a facial mask or hair treatment and give yourself a manicure or pedicure.

Spend a day giving back to your community. Find a food pantry, soup kitchen, or other organization in your area where you can donate your time. You may find some perspective about the challenges you may be facing, and kids can learn incredible life lessons if they participate.
