Instant Tricks for a Better Smelling Home

Whether you love clean, natural scents or prefer sophisticated layers of aroma, these simple tricks will help you banish the stale air of winter to create a better smelling home.

Take dryer sheets out of the laundry. If you use dryer sheets you can easily fill your home with the fragrance. Simply secure a sheet inside your central heating and air vents.

Create a lavender linen spray. Do you want to sleep between sheets that smell like a field of wildflowers? Yes, please! Just combine four ounces of rubbing alcohol with a few drops of lavender essential oil and two cups distilled water in a spray bottle. Adjust the scent by adding more drops of oil.

Scent your furnace filter. You already know that you need to replace your furnace filter regularly. Now you can make your home smell lovely at the same time. Just add a few drops of your favorite essential oil each time you change the filter.

Have a (cotton) ball. If you don’t have central heating or air, you can still fill your home with fragrance. Place a drop of your favorite essential oil on a cotton ball and hide it between your couch cushions, inside the toilet paper roll, in your kitchen cabinets—basically, anywhere you’d like a fresher scent.

Light it up. Place a dab of essential oil or even just plain old vanilla extract on a cool lightbulb. When the lights are on and the oil/extract warms, the scent will spread.
